Stats about Illegal Immigrants miss the Point.

The election of President Trump, his support for securing the southern boarder, and reform the immigration system to limit chain migration, etc. has created a new industry of “Experts” that support and want to protect illegal immigrants.  As the President makes the case that illegal immigrants cost the american people in a number of ways, he often points to serious criminal activity that an illegal immigrant has committed.  In an effort to defend immigrants (note the conflation), left leaning and libertarian “Experts” make the point that Illegal immigrants don’t cause a significant rise in crime.

These “Experts” use a number of studies that show that illegal immigrants have a lower crime rate than native born US citizens and then claim that we should be grateful that they have chosen  to come to our crime ridden country to lower the crime rate.  The article “Illegal Immigration Does Not Increase Violent Crime, 4 Studies Show” from NPR shows the kind of conflation and miss direction used by the “Experts” to distract people from the real issue.  The real issue isn’t an increase in the crime rate, the real issue is the fact that crimes committed by individuals in the country illegal would not happen if they were not here.

So, the issue isn’t more or less crime committed by individuals here illegal, any crime committed by an illegal immigrant is a crime that shouldn’t have happened.  These crimes would not have happened if we had protected our boarder and tracked visitors to detect over stays.  The latest victim of an illegal immigrant, Mollie Tibbetts, is dead because an illegal immigrant, came into the country illegally and then committed  identity theft to stay and work in the country.

Here is the final point.  When these “Experts” are confronted with the argument that any crime is too much they act surprised that one would even think this way and  try to move to a different talking point.  One can only come to one of four conclusions about the experts:

  1. The “Expert” is stupid and can’t see the real issue (unlikely).
  2. The “Expert” is dishonest and is trying to miss lead people.
  3. The “Expert” is dishonest and believes the public is stupid and can’t put two and two together.
  4. The “Expert” is so invested in protecting illegal immigrants that they just can’t see the point (most likely).  They are human and this is a human trait.
