The Total Eclipse

The total eclipse today was an awesome sight. One that makes one reflect on our human condition. We as so small in this great universe that we live in. As a child behind us at the event said “It’s like the whole world stopped!” And my nine year old son said, “this is better then a sleep over with friends”.  We are star dust trying to understand our corner of this grand universe.  Let me set the scene.

I viewed the eclipse with my family at the Air Port in Columbia, South Carolina. We, my wife, son and I, flew in on Saturday stayed at my Daughter’s house, she and her husband were great hosts.  The photo associated with this article show the scene at the Air Port.  I have to thank the folks at Eagle Aviation for their great hospitality.  Eagle provided, food, drinks, mood music and a place to park the plane.  And, a great place to watch the eclipse.  We got to witness what happens when scientist understand an area of study (orbital dynamics) thoroughly, the eclipse occurred at the exact time predicted.

We went to church the day before the eclipse and the minister had an interesting view on the current politics in light of Charlottesville, and the other unrest in the country.  You can’t fight hate with hate.  The view of the eclipse puts this in a prospective of how small our differences are, in the much grander galactic view, our differences should be easier to work out.
